What to expect
I offer both online and face-to-face counselling support, for individuals and couples. I also provide relational supervision, which can be clinical supervision for therapists or work supervision for anyone who works with people.
Whatever support you are looking for, you can get in touch by phone or email. I offer a free phone call up to 20 minutes if you like as a first step, though many clients prefer to arrange a full initial session in order to have more space and time to talk. The first full session is a chance for you to talk about the issues that concern you, and for each of us to see whether we think we can work well together. Sessions are usually 50 minutes long for individual clients, and 60 minutes for couples sessions. Supervision is often either 60 or 90 minutes, and I'm open to other arrangements depending on your needs.
At the first session we agree a way forward, based on what you hope to get out of coming for therapy. If you wish to work with me further, we agree on how often we will meet and for how long. We may agree to meet for a certain number of sessions as a start, after which we can review progress and decide on what's next. If one or both of us feels that another practitioner or service will be more effective for you, I can help point you in the right direction.
Counselling sessions are mostly conversations focused on supporting you to bring about the changes you want. Practical exercises can also be powerful tools for growth. Sometimes I share my own experiences, but only where I believe this is appropriate and will support the client’s needs and aims in therapy. We will also review progress regularly.
