How I work
My belief is that good therapy is a blend of safety, challenge and support, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
I work with people in an encouraging, warm and friendly way. I don’t offer off-the-peg solutions – instead I enable you to discover more about yourself and build your own answers.
Some clients come to therapy clear about what they want from it: this might be short-term help with specific issues, or more general self-development over time. Other clients arrive on the doorstep with a less clear sense of something not quite working in their lives, and first needing time and support to define the problem. It is common to have mixed feelings about starting to work with a therapist. I work with wherever your starting point is - there is no one ‘right way’ to do therapy!
I bring a range of possible skills and approaches to work with you, including:
- conversations that explore, acknowledge, affirm, and sometimes challenge
- exploring and increasing awareness of physical experience
- exercises and practical tools
- working with metaphors and dreams
- exploring and using how the client and therapist are relating to each other
All of these aspects can help you see and understand yourself in new and clearer ways - indeed therapy can be like having a good mirror.
